Artificial intelligence (AI) is an umbrella term that applies to getting a computer to solve problems by simulating human decision-making or behaviors at some level. It ranges from computers following pre-programmed algorithms to the more advanced “Machine Learning” applications, consisting of techniques that train computers to solve problems on their own using sophisticated probabilistic models based on large amounts of data.

An AI application cannot effectively or efficiently solve problems without the proper type and volume of data. It uses data to match or identify patterns to predict outcomes or to find a solution to a problem. This data needs to be provided by the company using the application or by the provider, in which case it is usually drawn from across customers or proprietary sources. It is important to understand from any AI application provider what data requirements and sources they use.
