A carefully considered assessment of leadership capabilities for each individual leader. It is made against the standard competency model for purposes of identifying development gaps in need of addressing and/or assessing a candidate’s state of preparation or readiness for a higher-level role.
Based on direct observation, identifying the individual’s key strengths and weaknesses for each relevant competency can be done using the criteria/rating scale. Areas of weakness are typically any shortcomings relative to the current role and any aligned with future potential role requirements. These ratings are often used as input to annual performance reviews for development planning and/or initial input into in leadership capability calibration sessions. A conversation should be held at least annually, using the form as both a guide and a data capture template.
