Purpose
A starting point for creating and driving a leadership development capability, the strategy defines who is considered a leader, how many of them are there, what attributes are to be assessed and developed across their careers, and how their success as leaders will be demonstrated. It describes the ideal leader at all (targeted) levels and is used to gain alignment around, communicate, and focus the creation and maintenance of a leadership development program.
How to use this tool
A meeting with top leadership is facilitated by HR to gain alignment around the ideal leaders, who will be targeted in the leadership development regimen or courses, and what will differentiate them from leaders in other organizations. The template is used to guide the questions asked and discussion, and a leadership competency model(s) is leveraged to describe the key attributes of the leaders.
